Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments.
