Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved playing various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he would play many hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus more on poker.
The real advancement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often wager against each other. He was able to access a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker world today. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
